Police have made an urgent appeal for a driver to come forward after a pensioner was killed in a car crash.
The 88-year-old woman from Dovercourt - who had not been named yesterday - was certified dead at the scene of the collision in Thorpe Road, Tendring, on Tuesday afternoon.
She was in a silver MGF sports car being driven by her 46-year-old daughter, who lives in Tendring, when the accident took place.
The vehicle was in collision with a red Ford Focus estate on a windy stretch of the Thorpe to Tendring road going into a dip just before the Cherry Tree pub at 3.25pm.
The 61-year-old male driver of the Focus, from Kirby-le-Soken, has also not been named by police.
PC Jerry Goodchild said officers were desperate to trace a driver of a vehicle which was overtaken by the Focus.
Two ambulances were called to the scene and the drivers of both cars were taken to Colchester General Hospital. The woman was detained overnight but is not in a serious condition while the man was released after treatment.
PC Goodchild said it was still fairly light at the time of the accident and while it was not raining the road was damp.
He said: "If anyone can help we would ask them to come forward as we need to generate more information."
Anyone who can help is asked to contact the Stanway traffic unit on 01206 762512.
