A solution to the capital's transport problems is long overdue, but a group of students at Brentwood County High School is aiming to come up with suggestions for London Transport to consider.
They have begun to study the current situation and are already thinking of ways that some of the problems might be overcome.
A small group of them gave a presentation at the Ford headquarters in Warley to an invited audience of officials from Ford and the Careers Research Advisory Council (CRAC).
They outlined what they had done so far and what they hope to achieve from the project, which is being done with help and support from the London Transport Museum and Ford Credit. Next year they will make a much larger presentation at the museum to present their ideas.
The pupils have been awarded £500 by CRAC to help them with the project.
Elizabeth Buxton, vice chairman of the school's governing body, received the cheque on their behalf.
She said: "The pupils' ideas and interests are obviously being stimulated by this project and they made a super presentation. I look forward to hearing more of their stimulating ideas."
