A new £25,000 Witham cycle link has been given the green light by councillors.
The Chess Lane cycle link will join Newland Street, the commercial heart of Witham, to the Blackwater rail trail - a route which could form a section of the developing national cycle network.
Chris Tivvey , Essex County Council cycle route officer, outlined plans for the route to councillors at a meeting of Braintree Council Witham area committee last night .
The route will be lined with red, bump-free surfacing and lit by street lamps.
Councillors approved the scheme unanimously without debate.
The scheme is being funded by a grant of £10,000 from Essex County Council and a contribution of £10,000 received from Morris Ashby Castings for their development of the EEV site on Freebournes Road.
The £5,000 shortfall will be made up from county money already allocated to the development of Witham cycleways.
