Police are appealing for witnesses after a spate of attempted burglaries in the Maldon area.
The first incident took place at 6.20pm on Monday when suspects were disturbed trying to break into a house in King Street. Nothing was stolen.
Would-be burglars were also disturbed at 7.40pm trying to force the back window of a house in Alamein Road, Burnham.
At 9.30pm, an elderly man disturbed three people, thought to be men, in his house in Chancel Close, Tillingham.
It is not known if anything was stolen in the latter two break-ins.
At 10.30pm an elderly women discovered the bedroom window of her home in Dockwra Lane, Danbury, had been forced while she was elsewhere in the house, but nothing had been taken.
An hour later an elderly woman realised £170 cash was missing from the bedroom of her home in Alexandra Road, Burnham, and the window was open.
Inspector Simon Williams from Chelmsford police said: "They may be linked, but obviously CID are looking into this."
