Two brothers are recovering from shock after armed robbers burst into their home and stole a bundle of cash.
The intruders, brandishing a handgun, barged their way into the house in Pound Lane, Laindon.
After pushing the men to the ground, they thrust the gun into their faces before making off with the money and various credit cards.
The brothers, aged 37 and 34, were taken to Basildon Hospital where they were treated for shock and minor head injuries.
They were released a short time after. Inspector Graham Gurnett, of Basildon police, said: "The two men knocked on the door and then pushed their way in. They stole a substantial amount of cash.
"It was not a prolonged attack but it was obviously a very frightening experience for the men and we are anxious for anyone who saw anything to contact us."
Despite being extremely shocked and upset by the incident, the brothers managed to give a description of the two robbers.
Anyone with information should contact Det Con Lisa Hawkins at Laindon CID on 01268 410101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
