Maldon District Access Group has pledged to carry on fighting for dropped kerbs and parking in the High Street to aid disabled shoppers.
The group held its annual meeting at the Brickhouse Farm Community Centre. Chairman David Rookard said that some improvements to paving had been carried out in the High Street, but members would carry on lobbying Essex County Council to create more.
"We are trying to get improvements with the pavements because it is an important means of mobility for people with wheelchairs," he said. "They need the dropped kerbs to be able to move around. If they are improved, more people can get into the High Street without relying on other transport."
Mr Rookard said that one of the areas where there were few dropped kerbs was the Poets Estate. One of the aims was to try to link different routes around town to the Blackwater Leisure Centre, Fambridge Road and Promenade Park.
The Access Group meeting was attended by about 20 people. Members also called for more parking in the High Street and discussed the importance of retaining rural post offices.
