The funeral of a tragic teenager killed in a hit-and-run accident is to take place later this week.
Steve "Bobby" Simpson, who was just 17, died in hospital after being hit by a car while trying to cross the A127 last month.
His parents Steve and Angela, of Theydon Crescent, Basildon, received hundreds of calls, visits and cards from his distraught friends.
A funeral date has now been announced, and anyone who knew Bobby and wants to celebrate his life is invited to attend.
The service will be held on Friday at Pitsea Crematorium and will start at 4.30pm.
Bobby's father Steve, 41, said: "The service is open to anyone who knew Bobby, any of his friends and wellwishers."
Bobby had many friends throughout south Essex, through a range of interests and clubs.
He was an award-winning kickboxer and boxer as well as a committed Christian, and enjoyed watersports.
Bobby left school early to start work, and was due to start a new job at Argos just days after his death.
After his death, Steve and Bobby's mother Angela, 40, described him as "cheeky" but lovable.
Steve said: "There's lots of hurt at the moment.
"But I think we'll really start missing him when he isn't coming in at night or we're going and doing things that should be done with him."
Detectives are still hunting the driver who hit Steve.
