Sister and brother Maria and Adam Hickey led the way as Borough of Southend swimmers won 15 medals at the Barnet Distance meet for 13-and-under age groups.

The two swimmers won three golds each at the competition to spearhead the club's haul of seven first place gongs in all.

Maria, 10, won her golds in the 100 backstroke (1.24.55), the 100 breaststroke (1.33.65) and the 100 freestyle (1.13.25). She also scooped silver in the 100 butterfly.

Brother Adam, also a strong cross-country runner, was first in the 100 butterfly (1.13.31), second in the 100 breaststroke (1.24.84), and third in the 100 freestyle (1.03.23).

Yet there were other star showings from the Borough swimmers, with Sammy Ace adding a gold in the 100m butterfly in 1.21.77.

Young Sammy also added silvers in the 100 backstroke (1.19.69), 100m breaststroke (1.38.87), and 100m freestyle (1.11.44). Two of the times were personal bests.

Jonathan Sayer grabbed silver in the 100m backstroke in a personal best time of 1.27.11, bronze in the 100m breaststroke (1.35.69), and added fourth spot in the 100m butterfly.

Club-mate Rebekah Sayer swam to fifth place in the 100 breaststroke, 10th in the backstroke and 12th in the 100 butterly, while Felicity Isaac placed 5th in the 100 freestyle, 8th in the 100 backstroke, and 11th in the 100 butterfly.

David Crichton, another talented cross-country runner, was 4th in the butterfly, 5th in freestyle and 7th in 100 backstroke and breaststroke.

Daniel Mason was 5th in butterfly and 9th in backstroke, while Amy Judd swam to personal bests in finishing 6th in the 100 breaststroke, 11th in the 100 backstroke and 13th in the 100 freestyle.
