Christmas shoppers in Chelmsford are being urged to use car parking spaces just minutes away from the main shopping areas to prevent queues.
There are more than 8,000 spaces in the town and drivers are being urged to use the Saturday car parks as alternatives if the popular central car parks are full.
Townfield Street has 560 spaces and Fairfield Road car park 431 spaces. They offer all-day parking on Saturdays and are only five minutes' walk from the town centre.
A couple of minutes further away there is free parking for nearly 400 cars at Rectory Lane.
Special arrangements have also been made for late-night and Sunday shopping.
On December 14 and December 31, the Meadows surface car park and multi-storey will be staffed until 10.30pm, with the surface car park's £1 exit coingate coming into operation from that time.
High Chelmer multi-storey will be open until 9.30pm on December 14 and 9pm on December 21.
On Sundays before Christmas, High Chelmer multi-storey and Meadows Retail Park multi-storey will be open from 9.30am to 5pm for £1 all day while the Meadows surface car park will be open as normal.
