Phone calls to Harwich Police Station could be automatically diverted to Clacton as part of a centralisation of police services in Tendring.
And Harwich Police Station may no longer be manned 24 hours a day by civilian staff under proposals due to be finalised next year.
Essex Police is currently undertaking a review of its call handling and is set to introduce centralised "one stop shop" service desks to deal with non-urgent calls.
There will be one service desk per division - with Tendring's being in Clacton.
Insp Mark Schofield, of Clacton police, said a project team at Essex Police headquarters was overseeing the proposal which affects every police division in the county.
