Ipswich Town's Mark Venus has spoken of his relief after surviving a 55-minute comeback just two months after undergoing surgery.

Venus was struggling with an ankle injury and had an operation after the play-off final triumph at Wembley in May.

And after less than eight weeks on the sidelines, he made a successful comeback during Town's pre-season friendly at Heybridge Swifts on Saturday.

Venus said: "I was pleased to play so soon after the injury. I felt sore but that was to be expected. It was nothing serious."
