The threatened Colchester Rotary Music Festival suffered a second blow today (Wednesday).

The future of the festival was put in jeopardy when Colchester Rotary Club announced that after ten years of leading the festival it felt it was time to hand over the reins to new organisers.

Festival committee chairman Graham Smith is already struggling to find volunteers to take over the key role of directing the event.

Now Colchester and East Essex Co-operative Society, one of the festival's main sponsors, has revealed this is the last year it will be supporting the event.

Co-operative Society public relations officer Lorraine Collins said: "We review all our sponsorships on an annual basis and other sponsorships will cease this year as well.

Concerns about the festival's future were aired at a public meeting on Monday at the Colchester Garrison Officers' Club.

Although several people volunteered to help, Mr Smith felt this might not be enough to save the festival when Colchester Rotary Club votes on it next Tuesday.
