A man of 40 was accused of the attempted murder of a teenage Laindon girl over the weekend.
Chris Williams, who was staying in temporary accommodation at Laindon, was alleged to have attacked the 17-year-old girl in Laindon High Road on Friday morning. She was taken to Basildon Hospital with head injuries.
On Saturday Williams was remanded in custody by Basildon magistrates to appear again on Wednesday.
He comes from Norfolk and is believed to know the teenager well. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
