A pet dog died in Basildon when it was left in a conservatory in hot weather.
The RSPCA is now warning animal owners to protect their pets against the heat - or risk prosecution.
It is considering pressing charges against the owner of the dog which died.
A spokeswoman for the RSPCA confirmed that the incident had taken place in Basildon.
