Denise Reed led home a strong contingent of Springfield Striders in the Race for Life, at Hylands Park last Sunday.
The course, which was obviously slightly longer than the advertised 5K, posed few problems for Denise as she finished fourth overall, in a time of 23.59.
Ann Claydon, Maria Norman, Merryl Dobson, Diane Macdonald, Suzanne Kuyser and Lin Richer all finished well up the enormous field of over 2000 runners.
Pauline Howlett did well in her first ever race, just beating Beth Cornish to the finish.
The Striders now organise a ladies only night on Mondays. Any interested ladies are invited to telephone Denise Reed on 01245 348086 for further details.
Also on Sunday, 12 Striders took to the roads of Southend for the annual half marathon.
Vic Spain ran a personal best 1.20.20 to lead home the club on a fast, flat course.
Other Striders well placed in another large field were Richard Milton and Julian Catmull, while Carl Cornish made a welcome return to the road running scene, after a long absence.
