Race ace Carl Nunn scooped two wins and a second place at Halstead and District MCC's British Motocross Championship on a sweltering afternoon at Wakes Colne.

In the first race Nunn - riding on a Yamaha - romped to victory yesterday with six seconds to spare over second-placed American Scott Sheak (Suzuki). Stephen Sword (AXO Honda) finished third.

Belgian star Patrick Caps (KTM) was fourth while current 125cc British Champion James Dobb - one of the favourites - slumped to sixth.

Nunn got off to a flying start in the second race and led for two laps before Mike Brown seized the initiative. The American held the lead for the remaining 12 laps while Caps finished third and Dobb fourth.

Paul Cooper, on his Motorex Husqvarna, emerged victorious in both open class races, taking the lead on lap six in the first. Gordon Crockard (Honda) finished second while early race leader Joakim Karlsson (Honda) took third.

James Marsh (KTM) opened up a ten-second lead in the second race over Neil Prince (Honda) before Cooper clawed his way back from seventh to first place.

Marsh finished second and Karlsson third while Crockard slumped to a disappointing fifth.

In the THQ Cup race - which combines the top 20 125cc and top 20 open class riders - Cooper stormed back from tenth to take top spot on lap 13. Crockard was second across the finishing line while early leader Karlsson finished third.

The first 125cc rider to finish was Nunn (Yamaha) followed by Brown and Dobb.
