The inaugural Evening Gazette/Fresh Start Cricketer of the month is Stuart Mills of West Mersea, whose batting exploits have earned him £100-worth of sports vouchers from Colchester store Harpers.
Mills, of High Street, West Mersea, who was nominated by first-team skipper Kevin Hewes, has already made the Gazette's headlines once this summer with a spectacular performance against Lexden.
After Lexden had set a tough pace in their Osborne League division two game with 161 for one, Mersea still needed three runs to win as the final ball of their innings was bowled.
Mills duly obliged, hitting a huge six - one of 11 he's scored this season - to wrap up a four-wicket success.
If you would like to nominate a member of your club for the next Gazette/Fresh Start Cricketer of the Month award, simply call 01206 751111 selection 8280, leaving your name and a daytime phone number and your reasons for making your nomination.
Alternatively, you can write to Cricketer of the Month, Oriel House, North Hill, Colchester CO1 1TZ.
The award is open to all cricketers, male or female, at any level who play within the Gazette's circulation area.
