PREMIER DIVISION: Curtis scores 134 - and loses!
There was some impressive cricket played at Coronation Park on Saturday, when Springfield entertained Aythorpe Roding.
David Curtis smashed 134, and Jimmy Symonds contributed 71 as the home side totalled 291 for seven .
Undaunted by the target, Aythorpe went for it and after being dropped early on, Andy Chambers made 95 and there were good contributions by Mark Rosewall (40) and Paul Gravatt (55) as Aythorpe stole in to 292 for eight with just one ball to spare. The game saw no less than 30 sixes hit.
Leaders Little Waltham came unstuck at Bentley where, chasing 193 for eight, they ended six runs short on 187 for eight.
Gavin Johnson top-scored with 52 for Bentley, while Dave Jeffrey returned six for 49.
Tillingham totalled 214 for nine at High Roding , Tim Blake (78), Wilson (52) and Chapman (40) the principle scorers, while J Clark returned four for 64.
Roding's reply saw Kerry score 60, Andrew Clark 40 and Danny Row 40, as the hosts made 217 for three for a seven wicket victory.
South Woodham Ferrers recorded a six run win at Old Chelmsfordians.
Woodham made 201 for six, Rob Haine hitting an impressive 79, and the OCs reply closd on 195, Mark Whickham scoring 81 and Steve Chapman taking four for 35.
AtGreat Waltham , Stock were restricted to 129 for eight, Turner (29) top-scoring. Paul Allen took two for 18 from nine overs.
Waltham got the runs in just 29 overs, Gary Bloom finishing unbeaten on 92 as they made 130 for the loss of just one wicket.
DIVISION ONE: Hymas hammers 118 as Corringham stay top
Darryl Hyams scored 118, Roger Maxted 41 and Robert Hutchison 39 as leaders Corringham totalled 271 for six at home to Writtle.
Writtle's reply petered out after they slipped to 70 for five, although Cook (57no) and Hayman (27no) batted well to see their side through to a total of 164 for six.
Title hopefuls Danbury slipped up at home to Ingatestone . After slipping to 60 for six, Stone's tail wagged significantly to take the total to 161 all out, A Todd (36) and Bates (33) the main contributors. Atkinson took three for 21 and Bowring three for 28.
Danbury's reply never really got off the ground in the face of some good bowling. Bonnington took three for 30, Pudney two for 19, while Smith and D Todd both finished with two for 24, as the home side were dismissed for 120.
J Thompson top-scored with 26 for Danbury, whose defeat was their first of the summer.
After being put in by visitors Hatfield Peverel, Great Baddow made 245 for one, Pulham scoring as unbeaten 111 and White 95.
It wasn't enough as Hatfield Peverel replied with 249 for three with an over to spare.
Kirkpatrick (98) and Stevens (64) were the main run makers as Peverel won by seven wickets.
Galleywood recorded their first win of the campaign, as they beat visitors Laindon Taverner s, who were dismissed for 153, Mark Gillings taking four for 39 and Graham Valentine four for 46. Nick Goodey top-scored with 37 while Tim Linahan, 16, added 26.
In reply, Paul Marlow scored an unbeaten 84, and Gillings 30 as Galleywood made 154 for two.
South Weald recorded their fourth successive win. They were dismissed for 269 by visitors Great Wakering , Gary Fisher scoring 110 and Richard Ankers 51.
Wakering replied with 175 for eight as they slumped to their fourth defeat in a row and slipped to the bottom of the table.
DIVISION TWO: Hull bowls high flying Burstead to victory
High-flying Great Burstead batted first at Little Baddow and although Taylor (64), Briggs (47), Cory (40) and Woolgar (39) got among the runs, the final total of 226 for six left the hosts feeling that they were in with a chance of victory.
After tea, Calvin Cole (81) and D Bowles (44) set the pace, but Hull (5-35 in 10 overs) and Stevens (3-36 in 20 overs) applied the brakes sufficiently to wrap up the reply 19 runs short at 197 all out.
Broomfield totalled 201 for seven against High Easter , Foster scoring 47, and King taking four for 41, but this total proved insufficient as G. Cheverall (66) and G Kinley (48) paved the way for victory for the home side with a reply of 203 for seven.
Woodham Mortimer had D Sawyer (53) to thank for supplying the foundation to their 215 for eight total against Terling , S Smith taking one for 17 in 12 overs.
The visitors made a spirited attempt to reach their target, but fell short by 16 runs, (199 all out), and thus gave the hosts their first victory of the season.
Ekco Monarchs travelled to Great Totham and amassed 209 for seven with Barden scoring 38 and Patel 39.
In the event, however, this total caused no problems for the home side as Peter Willingale (61) and Owen (44) guided Totham to a victory score of 210 for four.
HostsRayleigh found the total of 262 for five set by Burnham Sports too much for them as they were dismissed for 198 and therefore still seek their first win of the summer.
