A fourth Colchester-based Para has been diagnosed with malaria after serving in war-torn Sierra Leone.
The soldier, who is a member of the 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment, was diagnosed as suffering from the illness yesterday (Thursday).
He is being treated at the Army's medical centre at Colchester Garrison and will undergo further tests.
He was one of 200 members of 2 Para sent out to the West African country to support the 600-strong 1st Battalion The Parachute Regiment.
An Army spokesman said troops were given anti-malaria drugs as soon as they knew they were being sent to Sierra Leone.
Three other Colchester-based soldiers, including a Gurkha, were treated for malaria and are now back at work.
Their duties included guarding Lungi Airport near the capital Freetown.
Soldiers were told to contact medics if they developed flu-like symptoms.
