Kidney swap couple Mike and June Seymour have reported clean bills of health just six months after undergoing major surgery.

The pair, of Villa Road, Stanway, are making steady progress after the most turbulent of starts to the new millennium.

Desperate to transform her husband's way of life, Mrs Seymour donated her kidney after he endured a frustrating three-year wait for a transplant.

The couple finally underwent surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, in January.

Now Mr Seymour says he hopes other potential donors will be spurred into action.

He added: "I'm pleased to say that we're both feeling fine. We just want to get on with the rest of our lives. It seems a long while ago now. I've signed off at Addenbrooke's and now all I have to do is have a monthly check-up in Ipswich.

"I feel like I'm leading a normal life again and I've even been able to start working. I wasn't in agreement when June first said she wanted to go through with the operation. I wasn't sure if she'd pass all the tests.

"All I can say is that what she did for me was truly amazing. She is a truly amazing woman."

Mr Seymour was diagnosed with polcystic kidney disease four years ago - a genetic illness also suffered by his brother, uncle and daughter, Jacqueline.

Before the operation he needed dialysis three times a day and had to attach himself to a machine at home for ten hours at night and twice during the day.

Now the couple have their sights fixed on a well-earned holiday in Cyprus in September.
