Making sure the good word doesn't fall on stoney ground, parishioners have been practising for a special garden service.

The Rev Nigel Cooper, rector of Rivenhall and Silver End, will be hosting an outdoor service dedicated to gardens and gardeners in the grounds of Rivenhall Hall Farm on Sunday, July 2 at 11am.

The service will start a day long open garden event throughout the villages.

Mr Cooper said: "You may recall we started life in a garden, the garden of Eden, and at the end of the Bible in Revelation we see a vision of a city, which is essentially a garden city."

Homeowners are opening up their gardens up throughout Rivenhall and Silver End.

Entrance to all the gardens is by programme at a price of £2.
