The controversial 30mph speed limit on sections of Brentwood's Chelmsford and Rayleigh Road could soon be relaxed, following a hostile reaction from motorists and residents.
The new speed restrictions on a number of borough roads provoked controversy when they were introduced last year.
Now the borough's technical services has agreed to ask Essex County Council to introduce a new 40mph limit in Chelmsford Road, between the Mountnessing roundabout and Alexander Lane, and in Rayleigh Road between Martines Farm and Hutton Village.
