Hundreds of potential murder witnesses are to be revisited by detectives after new information came to light.
Those people who helped officers with information about the fatal stabbing of Danny Davis in February could now be called upon again.
It emerged that detectives have been working on the wrong scene since the Vange murder four months ago.
Now witnesses interviewed by officers during road checks outside the Barge pub, in Clay Hill Road, Vange - where the stabbing was originally thought to have taken place - are to be quizzed further with emphasis on the new scene.
New information brought to the attention of the murder squad puts the flats at Ryedene, off London Road, Vange, as the actual scene of the stabbing.
A finger-tip search has been carried out by Essex Police and house-to-house inquiries are continuing.
A knife handle and a complete knife were discovered during the search but officers are not convinced they have uncovered the murder weapon.
The items, which appear to have been in the undergrowth for some time, will now go through the forensic process.
Det Insp Cliff Haines, deputy senior investigating officer, said yesterday (Tuesday): "We do not believe the knives we have found are involved with the murder. As yet, we have not had any other sightings or information but we are still very hopeful.
"We are still following a number of leads and will certainly be revisiting a lot of witnesses we have already seen. With the new information, we need to retest some of our evidence and the witnesses to see if it makes any difference."
