Brentwood swimmer Steve Pavitt has bagged a gold medal in the Great Britain 2000 Masters Championships at Crystal Palace.
The contest took place at the weekend, and the championships attracted top level swimmers from all parts of the British Isles, with new World, European and British records were set.
Against this standard, the small contingent of swimmers from the Brentwood-based Albyns Masters performed well in their respective age groups.
Steve Pavitt won gold in the 200m butterfly - a difficult challenge - and it was a fitting reward for all the hard and consistent work that Pavitt has put in on this stroke. He also won bronze in the 1,500m freestyle.
Jill Complin, won gold in both the 100m and 200m freestyle and silver in the 50m free.
Sandra Rogers had a good race in 100m butterfly, winning silver and another silver in the 400m freestyle, plus a bronze in the 1,500m freestyle.
John Limmer demonstrated the quality of his stroke by gaining silver in the 200m breaststroke, and bronze in the 50m and in the 100m breaststroke and Daphne Gilbert added to the medals total by winning gold in her 100m and 400m freestyle races.
Albyns Masters swimmers are now 'gearing up' for the Essex County Masters Championships which are being held at Colchester this Saturday (June 17).
This is a popular and competitive meet and the club are hoping to field a good team.
Anyone who may be interested in joining the Albyns club is invited to telephone Daphne Gilbert on 01277 372926 for details.
