Results of a probe into alleged mismanagement at troubled New Basildon College are expected to be released next week.
Government inspectors from the Further Education Funding Council spent two weeks assessing the college in March and April, after it was given its third worst routine report in the FEFC's history.
Inspectors also investigated the college's financial affairs, as well as complaints that staff had been bullied.
College principal Chris Chapman was suspended by the board of governors at the beginning of the investigation. His fate is expected to be resolved later this month.
Now, the FEFC is expected to release the team's findings next week, although it is not known whether the full report will be made public.
The news comes on the day that Basildon College announced the election of John Robb, Basildon District Council chief executive, as chairman of the college's corporation board.
The board comprises 20 governors, and is aimed at bringing expertise to the college from areas such as business, accountancy, personnel and education.
Prof Robin Smith, pro-vice chancellor at Anglia Polytechnic University, was elected vice-chairman.
Basildon College's acting principal, John Gould, heralded the elections as part of a new beginning for the college and a major change in governance.
He said: "This is exciting news, John and Robin are very respected and experienced people.
"Coupled with the advice being received from the Further Education Funding Council, I have every confidence that our students will receive the high quality education, training and support they both need and deserve to enable them to reach their full potential."
