The golden oldies shone when Southend AC staged an Eastern Veterans League match for men aged over 40 and women of 35 plus at Garon's Park.
Stalwarts Neil Baker, Bill Garrard, Peter Binns and Peter Lawrence all turned in impressive displays, with decathlete Neil's best performance being second in the 400m hurdles.
Throwing specialist Bill won the javelin and discus, while Binns notched up twin glory in the 800 (2m.20.9) and 3000m (10m.14.5).
Lawrence covered the 3000m, one mile walk and javelin as the men totalled 123 points to come runners-up to Chelmsford.
The ladies were third on 76 - just a point behind Herts and Ware - with Chelmsford clear on 147.
Val Player was Southend's star, winning the pole vault with 1.50m and collecting a haul of points in the triple jump, discus and javelin.
