Burnham Week 2000 (August 26 to September 2) has been launched with a number of enhancements created from competitor suggestions and observations from previous years to offer one of the UK's most exhilarating race weeks for yachtsmen and women.
Successful changes incorporated into the 1999 event have been retained and improved, while courses have been arranged to provide a greater variety and choice of sailing areas.
The organising committee has worked closely over the winter with EAORA and SAILEAST to provide even better racing for IRC yachts.
This has resulted in Classes 1, 2 and 6 and the Contessa classes racing in and beyond the Crouch entrance for the four days of the royal Thames Regatta.
However, should individual yachts prefer to race less demanding courses they can select to enter classes 3, 4, 7 and 8 which will sail in the Crouch and just beyond the entrance.
In addition to the new course format, the popular Houghton Cup, Town Cup and Commodore's Cup will continue unchanged.
Dinghy racing is always a spectacular highlight of Burnham Week and this year, six races will spread over the three days of the Bank Holiday weekend.
The last week of August in Burnham will provide one of the racing yachtsman's highlights of the 2000 sailing season.
