Furious funfair impresario George White has vowed to continue his six-year fight to win a permanent home.
Mr White was left disappointed at a third rejection by councillors to an application to use the site where the family currently live as permanent accommodation. His family have been travelling showpeople for generations, taking rides to funfairs.
Four families live in the caravans and mobile homes at Whitegates in Lower Park Road, Wickford.
Two previous appeals were considered by a planning inspector - who concluded both times that there was not enough justification to allow green belt land to be used for permanent residential purposes.
Councillor Malcolm Buckley (Con, Wickford South) told the Wickford area committee: "If we agree this we put ourselves in the invidious position of having to grant other unauthorised uses."
