Hadleigh delight at taking scalp of champions
Fives & Heronians 175
Hadleigh & Thundersley 176-3
(Hadleigh won by seven wickets)
The astonishing demise of Fives, champions of the Shepherd Neame League for the past two seasons, continued as they well and truly thrashed by visitors Hadleigh.
After taking the First Division crown two seasons ago Fives captured the first ever Premier crown last term but currently sit bottom of the table after this setback against newly-promoted Hadleigh.
Not surprisingly, newly-arrived Indian Test star Dev Ghandi played a major role for the visitors. He captured 6-28 in 17.5 overs, seven of them maidens, and then led the reply with 70.
He got great support on the bowling and batting front from Paul Corps.
After taking 3-54 in 15 overs, Corps carried his bat for 69 in Hadleigh's winning reply of 176-3, which came in just 46 overs compared to the 64 that Fives had taken to make their inadequate total.
Neil Goodman managed 26 and it all left visiting skipper Steve Brown in delighted frame of mind after a great all-round display in which Hadleigh's "tremendous" bowling and fielding was a major factor.
However, home skipper Mel Hussain - brother of England captain Nasser - was left scratching his head as to why his all-conquering Fives' troops have suddenly turned into also-rans.
