A motorist was airlifted to hospital after an accident involving a van and two lorries on the A12 at Langham.
The 22-year-old Ipswich man was rushed to Colchester General Hospital with head and chest injuries, although police say these were not life-threatening.
Colchester fire crews cut the driver from his white Transit van, which was severed into two pieces as a result of the impact with the lorries which were in a layby shortly before 4.30pm yesterday.
Both lanes of the Ipswich-bound track were briefly blocked and one lane remained closed for about two hours causing tailbacks past the Ardleigh interchange.
Police refused to release further information about the incident.
