Renault Elf Promatecme F3 driver Matt Davies from Billericay battled up the field to ninth place in the seventh round of the Green Flag British Formula 3 Championship at Brand Hatch.
"It was a hard race" admitted Davies after converting 12th place on the grid into ninth place at the chequered flag.
Davies, 23, made a good start to move up one place into the first corner, Paddock Hill Bend, and then picked up a further two places before the end of lap six.
Thereafter he ran right behind Italian Glanmarla Brunl's car for the rest of the race, without ever quite being able to pass.
"I was quicker than him at the same places every lap, but could not find a way past," said Davies.
The Renault Elf Promatecme F3 cars next race is at Donington Park on Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2.
