Ghostly footsteps have been seen walking near Colchester Arts Centre.

The footsteps, which can only be seen after dark, are a part of the You Are Here campaign aimed at drawing people's attention to the arts in town.

They recently became visible in Church Street and can be traced along the north wall of the St Mary's Church, home to the popular arts centre.

The church was built in the 14th century and the tower dates back as far as the tenth century.

Dan Pinchbeck, arts centre spokesman, said: "They're small feet, without shoes and they hop or skip more than walk."

Arts centre director Anthony Roberts added: "Like the rest of East Anglia there are stories of ghosts associated with Colchester and in particular this building."

The projections have been created by the muf art and architecture group with Colchester Arts Marketing.
