Following in the footsteps of Handy Andy from BBC 1's Changing Rooms comes Handyman Kevin from Help the Aged.

Kevin Berner works for the senior citizen charity installing security products all year round for free in the Essex area.

Now thanks to Tesco raising £13,956 in local stores, Kevin has been sponsored by the supermarket giant to secure 162 more homes in the Essex area.

Security products such as door viewers, bolts and chains, mortice locks and smoke detectors are all fitted free to senior citizens.

Sally Pain, from the Help the Aged HandyVan service said: "Older people can feel particularly vulnerable in their homes, especially those who live alone.

"A visit from the HandyVan fitter can make a real difference - helping them feel safer in their own home. If you know of an older person who could benefit from a Tesco home safety makeover, then please call us and book a visit from Kevin."

The service is designed to reach the most vulnerable and needy older residents. Help the Aged aims to assist those people of pensionable age who would not otherwise be able to afford to have the work undertaken.

Since the service's launch back in 1995, the 21 HandyVans around the country have completed over 29,000 jobs.

If you know of an older person who could benefit from a visit from the handyman then call 01255 434441 for details.
