Linford Wanderers went three points clear at the top of the Southend District League's Premier Division when they triumphed 2-0 at Sixty Acres with goals from I Bass and S Talbot.

Nearest rivals Thundersley and Hadleigh were held to a 1-1 draw at Cricketers Horndon, Borton scoring for T and H and Jago for the Horndon outfit.

There was also bad news for third placed Canvey Orient, who went down 2-0 at home to Parma Sports, Westacott scoring two.

Sparkbridge, lying fourth, also dropped a point when drawing 2-2 at Steelers, who grabbed a double through Crouch. Ashlin and Baker got the Sparkbridge goals.

Armada Sports set sail for seventh place after beating AFC Horndon 2-0. Cogger and Drury netted.

In Division One, Enterprise Athletic, lying second, and the team immediately below them, Thundersley Rovers, shared the spoils in a 4-4 draw. Gillard grabbed a double for Enterprise and Lindsay's brace helped Rovers to their point.

Leaders Hockley and Hawkwell failed to take advantage as they were held 4-4 by Rochford Town Reserves. Medcraft got two for Rochford, while Wade's duo was critical for the top dogs.

Wickford Rangers lifted themselves to fifth place after beating Blackgate Gunners 9-0. Waters grabbed a quartet of goals and there were two-goal strikes from Morris and West.

It was a case of at the double for Rayleigh, who had braces from Bradon and Bartlett to thank for a 5-4 win over CUACO.

Bottom club Ashworth Town are in real trouble after crashing 4-1 to Corinthians, for whom the scorers were Gabbittas, Stringer, Rose and Chaplin.

Belvedere are still leading the way in Division Two after beating Steelers Reserves 4-2 with Sargent and Newton both scoring twice.

Stanford Wanderers are only behind on goal difference - and did themselves a power of good in this department when they crushed Middleway 9-0. Richardson (3) and Taylor (2) were the leading marksmen.
