We asked for your suggestions for Colochester United's Player of he Century and you replied with nominations a-plenty.
When we drew up our shortlist we asked for your votes and they came in by the hundred.
Now we are at last able to announce the name of the player Gazette readers have chosen as Colchester United's Man of the Century.
And the winner is... Peter Wright, who made a then record 421 League appearances for his home town club between 1952 and 1964.
Peter last week celebrated his 66th birthday and was delighted to hear of his latest soccer triumph.
"It's a great honour to be chosen for this award," he said. "I didn't think I was in with a chance."
He polled a remarkable 46 per cent of the votes cast for the U's Man of the Century.
Runner-up, with 31 per cent, was Roy McDonough, whose efforts to restore the U's League status and to get them to Wembley for the first time for the 1992 FA Trophy final made him hugely popular with the fans.
Mark Kinsella, now a full Republic of Ireland international, polled 15 per cent of the votes, with Bob Curry, captain of the 1948 FA Cup giantkilling U's side, earning ten per cent of the total.
