Ipswich Town were today holding talks with Huddersfield Town striker Marcus Stewart.
The 27-year-old travelled to Portman Road after the two clubs agreed a fee thought to be in the region of £2 million.
If he signs it will break the club's record £1.1m fee they paid to secure striker David Johnson from Bury in 1997.
Stewart, who scored twice for the Terriers in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace, has been speaking to chairman David Sheepshanks and manager George Burley.
The Town boss is hopeful of including the former Bristol Rovers striker in his squad for Saturday's game at Barnsley.
