Great Wakering Rovers went into Essex Thames-side Trophy action at Premier Division Purfleet last night confident in the knowledge that a rare weekend of inactivity had not damaged their Ryman League Division Three title hopes.

For East Thurrock United, level on points with Rovers at the top but with a superior goal difference, lost 2-1 at Epsom and Ewell and have now played the same number of League games as the village side.

Wakering return to League action for the first time in three weeks next Saturday with a visit to promotion rivals Bracknell Town, who held them to a 2-2 draw at Burroughs Park in November.
