The Archbishop of Canterbury is coming to Chelmsford for a four-day visit.
The Most Rev Dr George Carey has announced that he will be touring the Chelmsford diocese, spending much of the time in the town itself.
Dr Carey and his wife will start their visit at Chelmsford Cathedral on Friday February 18, with the Archbishop addressing the clergy of the diocese and visiting the cathedral offices.
The Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Rev John Perry, said: "I am delighted that the Archbishop and his wife have accepted our invitation to come and spend some time with us.
"They will see something of the life of the people of Essex and East London and see the vibrant work of the churches and the issues which they encounter in our various different communities."
The Archbishop has been invited to spend his first evening at a reception in Chelmsford at County Hall. The following morning he is touring the burns unit at Broomfield Hospital where he is expected to chat to staff and patients.
The rest of his visit includes a visit to Stansted Airport, a community regeneration project in Basildon and a night shelter in Southend.
Dr Carey is also expected to visit churches in Harwich and Great Clacton, deliver an open lecture at Essex University, and go to the Ford plant in Dagenham before returning home on Monday February 21.
