A city worker was banned from contacting a former boyfriend after he was forced to turn to police in a bid to end her harassment.

Susan Hammett, 41, of Parklands Drive, Chelmsford, has worked in London as a successful personal assistant for more than 20 years.

But after admitting harassment and drink driving, Hammett was banned from driving for two years, had a restraining order imposed on her and was ordered to pay £255 and carry out 60 hours of community service.

Colchester magistrates heard on Friday how Hammett's two-year relationship with Halstead man Chris Winston had broken down towards the end of October last year.

Prosecutor Dinah Walters said Mr Winston received a large number of phone calls from Hammett saying she wanted to see him again.

In November, Hammett went round to his home and started banging at his window forcing him to send her away.

On December 29 last year, she again plagued Mr Winston with phone calls, in one case nine separate calls within 20 minutes.

The police were called and despite them telling Hammett to stay away she again went around to Mr Winston's home asking him to see her.

Mrs Walters said: "She came to the door and started banging at the window becoming more and more distressed."

Hammett had driven to Mr Winston's, and was later found to have almost three times the legal alcohol limit in her system.

A test showed Hammett had 99mcg of alcohol in every 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

For driving with excess alcohol she was given a 60-hour community service order and banned from driving for 24 months.

For harassment she was fined £200, had a restraining order put on her and was told to pay £55 towards prosecution costs.
