A 77-year-old Chelmsford man died after the car which he was driving hit a lamppost last week.
He was Thomas Gibson, of Broomfield Road. The accident happened in Chelmer Village Way, Chelmsford, near the Henniker Gate junction, around 3.15pm on Thursday..
Now traffic police want to thank an off-duty nurse who pulled Mr Gibson from his car and worked to resuscitate him until paramedics arrived.
He was pronounced dead at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.
PC Bill Watts, of Chelmsford traffic police would like to hear from any witnesses to the accident, and would also like the nurse to contact him so that a letter of thanks can be sent.
