An angry bank customer confronted the manager in the street.
When the manager refused to identify himself, 29-year-old Allan Mayhew, said he knew he worked for the bank because he had an umbrella.
Keith Rylands, prosecuting, at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court yesterday, said Mayhew then became angry.
He swore at the manager, clenched his fist and offered to fight the other man. The manager said he would call the police and Mayhew walked off.
Mayhew 29, of Hill Road, Chelmsford, admitted threatening behaviour.
Mr Rylands told the court Mayhew, who was not represented, had been placed on probation for two years by the crown court on December 9 on other matters.
Mayhew told the magistrates: "There was an incident but I do not think I was that angry. I did not clench my fist.
"I am sorry I caused distress by this incident and I should keep my opinions about Lloyds Bank Security Services to myself."
After reading a report, magistrates agreed the probation order should continue. Mayhew was also ordered to pay £30 compensation and £30 costs.
