Wivenhoe's 15-year-old Katy Osborne is applying for a place at musical theatre colleges.

Katy takes her GCSEs this year at the Colne Community School, Brightlingsea, but before that she has a stint with the National Youth Music Theatre, involving a £700 residential course and performances in four cathedrals.

Local people, including Wivenhoe's Concert Group, helped raise funds to send Katy on a stage course last year. There will be a quiz night at the William Loveless Hall at 7.30pm on Saturday, February 5, to further help her stage ambitions.

Admission is £5 per team - groups of four to six, families included.

... Colchester historian Andrew Phillips will lecture on the town's Hythe, which he chose as the subject in light of plans for its future development, at the Nottage Institute at 7.30pm tomorrow. Tickets, £1 for non-members, on the door.

... Essex Concert Band is putting on a special millennium concert at the William Loveless Hall at 7.30pm on Saturday, February 12.

... Eighteen members of the Wivenhoe Society were given a guided tour of Colchester Town Hall by local borough councillor Bob Richardson.

The group - interested in history, conservation and future plans for Wivenhoe - learned more about Colchester's main municipal building.

... A coffee morning is being organised to raise sponsor money for a charity parachute jump on in aid of the National Asthma Campaign. It will be at 10am on Saturday at 1 Victoria Close, Wivenhoe.
