A woman who assaulted the manager and barmaid of a pub has been warned she could face a jail term.

Marie Wade bit the wrist of Jenny Fellows, landlady of the Melrose pub in Westcliff, and tore her blouse. She also pulled necklaces being worn by bar worker Kelly Roach so tight she felt she was choking and fell to the ground, Southend magistrates heard.

She pleaded guilty to two charges of common assault.

Prosecuting, Glenn Cocker, said Wade, 30, of Satanita Road, Westcliff, joined in a party being held at the pub in Hamlet Court Road on September 11 last year, even though she had not been invited.

As the evening wore on, Mrs Fellows noticed Wade was becoming very drunk, and refused to serve her any more drinks.

A disagreement broke out, and Wade approached Mrs Fellows, who attempted to remove her from the pub.

As she did so, Wade bit her wrist, leaving teeth marks, then ripped the buttons from the front of her blouse.

When Miss Roach intervened, Wade grabbed her necklaces from behind and pulled them, leaving Miss Roach gasping for breath.

She fell to the floor and felt a sharp pain at the back of her neck as her necklaces broke. Wade was then ushered outside and spat at Miss Roach's face.

JPs adjourned the case for sentencing, asking for reports to be prepared on the basis that the crime was so serious Wade could face a prison sentence. She was remanded on conditional bail until February 14.
