Brentwood';s run of defeats continued on Saturday when they lost at home to second in the table Ilford.

The home side created many good scoring opportunities but failed to find the target when well placed.

Ilford took the lead when they broke away on the right flank and put in an accurate cross that C. J. Emmanuel directed just inside the near post.

From this point on the Blues had much the better of the play and gained their reward in the 61st minute with a well worked equaliser.

Eddie Martin sent in a cross from the left that Jason Fairweather headed over the last defender to Darren Hitchcock who made no mistake, by hitting a strong shot into the net.

Celebrations were shortlived however, as within a minute, Ilford were back in front.

The normally reliable goalkeeper Dave Pether made an error when he advanced off his line and on realising his mistake, he hesitated and was caught in no man's land, allowing Emmanuel to tap home his second goal.

To their credit the Blues continued to play good football and pushed more players forward but this led to them being caught by a speedy counter attack.

Pether parried a shot but was unable to prevent the ball crossing the line.

Brentwood: D. Pether, L. Felstead, E. Martin, J. Read, K. Garneys, D. Allen, D. Hitchcock, C. Mead, J. Fairweather, D. Stittle, P. Brewington, J. Grandison, T. Evans and M. Winter.
