Witnesses to a fatal car crash which left a young driver dead and his friend in intensive care are still being sought by police.
Kevin Stanton, 20 of Craylands, Basildon, was killed after his car was in collision with a tree on Castledon Road in Wickford at around 11pm on Wednesday, December 8.
Passenger Colin Humphries, also 20, of Norsey Road, Billericay, survived, but has only recently come out of intensive care. Police are, however, still trying to piece together the lead up to the tragic accident
The two drove away from a house in Ruskin Path, Wickford, about 20 minutes before the accident, but that is the last time Kevin's grey E reg Ford Orion saloon was seen before the accident.
Sgt Andy Barker, from Laindon Traffic Unit, said: "We have a twenty minute gap and we want to speak to anyone who could shed some light on that period of time.
"At the moment Mr Humphries is unable to tell us anything about the accident.
"As far as we know only one car was involved, but we cannot at the moment rule out that there was nothing else involved.
"Castledon Road is a relatively quiet road, but not completely unused at this time of night and the car still had its lights on when it was found, so it may have been seen by someone who has not yet come forward
"We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the car."
