A dog owner with a guilty conscience tethered and abandoned this handsome hound - then told a Wickford dog rescue service where to find him.
Jake, who was named by his saviours at Gemini Kennels, is now enjoying lots of TLC after being found near Tilbury Fort.
For the time being the lucky four-year-old long-haired German shepherd, is in the care of kennel owners Eunice and Michael Knight. But he needs a new permanent home.
Michael said: "We got a phone call on Tuesday saying where the dog had been left - but he still took a lot of finding. We must have walked about half a mile to where we eventually found him.
"It must have been the owner who called because nobody else would have seen him or even heard him cry - if we hadn't found him he could have starved to death."
