Billericay seemingly started Saturday's game with a post-millennium hangover, and conceded an early goal to a Braintree short corner.
Billericay worked their way back into the game and Joseph Pattara, Gary Tapsell and Matthew Hadley made their presence felt in midfield.
This pressure was rewarded when Simon Rattenbury skipped past a Braintree defender then rounded the goalkeeper to slot home the equaliser.
Billericay's defence in the second half was resolute, Richard Mothersole and Daniel Hadley making key tackles to keep the home side out.
With 10 minutes to go, George Kallarackal, in trademark fashion, flicked Alan Campbell's strong pass into the net and this gave Billericay a hard fought win, increasing their lead at the top to five points.
