A gun-wielding robber and his accomplice held up an Ingatestone store last week.
The two men, both white and in their early 20s, walked into Budgens in the High Street at about 7.30pm last Wednesday.
They had been seen in the shop earlier, but this time they lingered. When the till was opened, one man pointed a handgun - believed to be a fake - at the assistant and made a grab for the cash.
The gunman was 5ft 10in, of medium build, wearing black gloves, a black coat and dark jeans. The other robber was 5ft 8in tall and had brown, crewcut hair.
Witnesses are asked to call Det Con Graham Brown on 01277 262212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
