Billericay bounced back from last week's frustrating off-the-field disappointments when they battled their way to a vital away win at second-placed Woodbridge.
The Eastern Counties One side were stripped of two points by the League last week, but a great all-round performance saw them claw back crucial points against their fellow high-flyers.
Billericay were in control from the kick-off, and took a deserved lead in the fifth minute when Mark Yates crashed over following Steve Clow's excellent line-out play. Fly-half John Steven converted to put the visitors 7-0 ahead.
The visitors then pinned Woodbridge back in their own side of the field for much of the half, but suffered a setback when the home side exploited a dozing defence to pull to within two points at the break.
Even so, despite losing Roger Moore and Jeff Brown to injury, Billericay's strong loose play and tackling made sure they were soon back in command, and Phil Parmenter wrapped up the points with a brilliant individual try.
With the Woodbridge backs ominously approaching the Billericay line, he intercepted a pass and raced the length of the field to score. Steven converted to hand the visitors a useful win as they try to close the gap on runaway leaders Saffron Walden.
On a good weekend for the club Billericay's second-string beat Rochford 9-3 with three tries from Dave Draper, while the 3rd XV beat Chelmsford
54-12 with scores from Brian Heffernan (2), Nick Wakley (2), Adam Easey (2), Mark Sumpter, Ray Ross and Dave Ludlow.
Not to be outdone, Billericay under 16s beat Brentwood 27-7 with tries by Quentin Hardwick (2), Lawrence Stephens and Simon Bradley, who also kicked two conversions and a drop goal.
