A special hearing will be held at Southend Magistrates' Court after a man admitted drink driving.
At the court house in Victoria Avenue, Craig Wright, 40, of Thorpeleas, Canvey, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol in Canvey on October 31 last year.
However, Wright, who was unrepresented in court, said he drove because of a "special circumstance."
Stipendiary magistrate Kevin Gray ordered a special hearing to be held to hear the facts. It will take place on March 30 at the court.
Wright was remanded on unconditional bail until the date of the hearing.
